Domestic Blood Pressure Monitor

More than ever before, we monitor our body's condition constantly. We pay attention to pain and notice subtle changes in the way we feel. However, one of the most serious aspects of our health, our blood pressure, is silent and not possible to observe without help.

We are used to seeing blood pressure monitors (also known as a sphygmomanometer) inside the doctors office and we’ve all had the cuff of a monitor strapped around our arm as the doctor or nurse pumps it up to see if we’ve got a healthy blood pressure .

What many folks don’t know is they can do exactly the same test with a modern blood pressure monitor at home. Taking your blood readings is a very simple task. A blood pressure monitor is a straightforward gadget and getting the results is easy. If you see a problem, you then go to a medical practitioner for additional tests.

Only a few of us know of friends or relatives who own a blood pressure monitor as most of us don’t purchase one unless the doctor has advised us. However, we have many other medical related things in our houses. A thermometer is always part of our medical supplies. Who would think of being without one? We have other first aid supplies like gauze and bandages. So why not a blood pressure monitor?

It’s actually a recommendation for anyone that’s over forty, to regularly monitor their blood pressure, and it is a quick safe and easy task when you have your own blood pressure monitor.

Possibly part of the anxiety of owning your own blood pressure monitor is that it looks a bit complicated when the doctor or nurse checks your pressure. However, blood pressure monitors designed for home use are very simple to operate as mentioned above. Of course, you can buy a traditional blood pressure monitor exactly as your doctor might use if you prefer it but you need a stethoscope to be able to read your pressure. However, a modern blood pressure monitor does all the work.

These home blood pressure monitors are models that require you strap the cuff around your hand or wrist. The least expensive types need you to pump up the cuff with the bulb all of us have seen our doctors do. However, the results are electronically displayed just like on a calculator. These models are small, lightweight, and battery powered. Some of the simplest models are worn around your wrist like an oversized wristwatch. There is absolutely nothing to do with this style of blood pressure monitor except to wear it.

In addition to blood pressure, some models measure heart rate. Prices start from well under $50 but always purchase from a reputable dealer who gives you a product warranty.
